This Labor Day holiday, my daughter, who came down from Atlanta, and I went on a picnic to Key Biscayne. With the blue ocean spread out before us, our eyes and minds felt refreshed.
We climbed the lighthouse at Crandon Park and started our day pleasantly, walking half and running half of the 2.5-mile course along lush forest paths and beach trails. But then... following the suffocating humidity and heat, a swarm of mosquitoes suddenly descended!
But we have our "pro camper" husband! He brought a portable fan, almost too massive for camping, and blasted us with air. Thanks to him, we were temporarily free from the heat and mosquito attack, and preparing our meal in the shade was much more comfortable. My husband is the best, as always!
The highlight of the day was the mung bean pancakes my daughter wanted, made by Mom! We brought the batter from home and cooked them sizzling hot with the ocean as a backdrop... Wow, this was truly delicious! Adding grilled meat to that made it even better. Indeed, any meal eaten outdoors is the best.
Those brief moments of eating and resting while gazing at the blue Atlantic were a perfect paradise. If only there hadn't been mosquitoes ☹
